The 90° long radius (1.5D) reducing welded steel elbow is a custom fabricated butt-weld pipe fitting designed for integrated pipe turning and gradual diameter transition. Different from integral seamless reducing elbows, this product is manufactured through steel plate blanking, sectional rolling, precise assembly and full-penetration welding processes. With a standard 1.5D bending radius and asymmetrical inlet and outlet bores, it solves the on-site matching problem of variable-diameter steering in large-caliber, medium and low-pressure piping systems, filling the specification gap that seamless forming cannot cover. It is one of the most practical and cost-effective special fittings in municipal and industrial pipeline engineering.
All fabrication works strictly abide by ASME B16.9, MSS SP-43 and GB/T 12459 standards. Authorized manufacturers mainly adopt Q235B carbon steel, ASTM A234 WPB and low-alloy steel plates as raw materials, supporting large-diameter and non-standard reducing combinations ranging from DN100 to DN2000. Wall thickness covers STD, SCH40, SCH80 and XS industrial grades to match different pipeline pressure levels. All welding operations are implemented in accordance with certified WPS and PQR qualification procedures. Post-weld non-destructive testing including ultrasonic and radiographic inspection is carried out to eliminate welding defects such as incomplete penetration, porosity and slag inclusion, ensuring structural uniformity and sealing reliability of finished elbows.
The optimized 1.5D long-radius arc and tapered reducing structure delivers smooth fluid transition inside the pipeline. It effectively suppresses flow velocity fluctuation and local turbulence caused by abrupt diameter change, reduces frictional pressure loss and medium scouring on pipe walls. Compared with the combined installation of ordinary equal-diameter elbows and concentric reducers, the integrated reducing welded elbow simplifies piping structure, avoids excessive pipeline resistance and vibration, and improves the overall stability of fluid transmission. It is widely applied in municipal water supply and drainage, central heating pipe networks, general chemical process pipelines and industrial circulating water systems.
Reliable suppliers implement standardized full-process quality control for custom welded special fittings. The complete production flow includes raw material thickness and composition inspection, CNC rolling forming, groove precision machining, positioning assembly, stress-relief treatment, dimensional rechecking and surface derusting. Custom non-standard reducing ratios, special wall thicknesses and exclusive bending parameters are available for personalized project demands. Multiple surface protection treatments such as anti-rust paint, rust-proof oil and hot-dip galvanizing can be provided to adapt to indoor, outdoor and buried pipeline working conditions.
In practical engineering, large-caliber reducing welded elbows have obvious economic advantages while meeting design pressure and service performance requirements. The integrated forming design reduces pipeline connection nodes and on-site welding workload, lowering construction cycle and leakage risks. Choosing professional manufacturers with standardized welding processes and complete testing systems can effectively avoid structural deformation and medium leakage caused by unqualified fabrication, ensuring long-term safe and stable operation of medium and low-pressure variable-diameter steering piping systems.
